Intratec's thin-walled and flexible shrink tubes are suitable for a wide range of applications. The shrink tubes are supplied on a practical reel. Many different sizes and colours are available.
Materials for heat shrink tubing for low voltage applications:
A wide range of requirements are placed on a material suitable for the manufacture of heat-shrinkable products. The type of base material is determined by the required range of properties of the end product. This usually leads to the selection of a polyolefin material for low voltage applications, but in special cases it may also require the use of PVC, Teflon®, Kynar®, Viton® or various elastomers. The mechanical properties are additionally influenced by the addition of fillers such as carbon black, kaolin, chalk, etc. Polyolefins are used in Intratec 2:1 heat shrink tubing.
Processing method for heat shrink tubing:
1. when choosing the tubing size, it is important to select the tubing in such a way that a minimum shrinkage of 20% and a maximum shrinkage of 80% is possible. This allows the tubing to fit neatly.
2. when cutting the hose into sections, make sure that the cut is clean and straight. Corners or edges can cause the tubing to tear during the shrinking process.
3. since all shrink tubes shrink both lengthwise and crosswise, the tube should be cut slightly longer than the piece to be insulated.
4. shrinking should start in the middle of the tube and then continue to both ends. This prevents air from collecting under the tube. This procedure is particularly recommended for long lengths of tubing or adhesive-coated tubing.
5. When shrinking onto metal or other heat-conducting material, the temperature of the material must be higher than the shrinking temperature at shrinkage to ensure that the tubing is
held firmly in place.
