Quick, Easy, and Reliable. With the Intratec cable tester, you can now effortlessly detect faulty network or ISDN cables.
A cable tester is an essential part of every cable installer or service technician's toolkit, allowing them to verify the transmission path upon completion of the work. Most network errors or disruptions are due to issues in the cabling. This testing device quickly and easily identifies such problems.
This verifier allows you to check the electrical continuity of cabling between two endpoints and to test for breaks, short circuits, swapped, or crossed wire pairs. Once a fault is detected, the tester emits an audible signal accompanied by optical port blinking.
This robust cable tester consists of two modular units, each equipped with an RH45, RJ11, RJ12, USB, and BNC socket. These units can be easily slid apart or together for use.
Due to its modular design, the additional receiver unit can be used for shielded (STP), unshielded (UTP), complex, or long-installed cables. It can be connected, for example, to the patch panel or wall socket, while the main unit is used for testing at the other end. The testing range is 500 meters.
The network tester is suitable for testing USB, BNC, LAN, RJ11, RJ12, and RJ45 cables. It is powered by a 9V block battery, which is not included in the delivery.
Note: Only one cable can be tested at a time. For example, a BNC cable and an RJ-45 cable cannot be tested simultaneously. The 4-in-1 cable tester consists of a master unit and a remote unit. The remote unit is detachable during cable testing, but care should be taken when removing it from the master unit, as the plastic edge is sharp.
Testing Patch Cables:
Patch cables are accessible from both ends at the same location. Typically, these cables are shorter than 25 feet and are not installed within walls or ceilings. Since both ends are accessible, one end should be connected to the 4-in-1 main unit and the other to the remote unit. It is not necessary to remove the remote unit from its docked position on the main unit.
Testing Installed Cables:
When the two ends of the test cables are not in the same location, the remote unit can be detached from the main unit. After detaching, one end of the cable can be connected to the remote unit and the other end to the main unit.
Operation:
Once the remote unit and the main unit are connected to the cable as described above, testing can begin. Press and release the "Test" button on the main unit and observe the LED indicators. Pay attention to the signal tone emitted by the main unit.
The power LED should illuminate once the "Test" button is pressed and released. It should stay on for at least 5 seconds. If it does not light up, replace the battery.
If the remote unit is not connected to the main unit via a cable, or if the cable has no intact conductors, the "No Connection" LED will light up, and the signal tone will sound once.
Note: When testing an RJ45-STP cable, the S/G LED must illuminate.
The cable tester can only test complete cables. It may not detect faults in cables that are intentionally incomplete. For example, a standard EIA/TIA568 RJ-45 Ethernet cable is expected to contain eight conductors. If only four conductors are used between the RJ-45 connectors, the tester may not correctly identify the faults. RJ-11 cables can have two, four, or up to six conductors. For cables with two conductors, LEDs 3 and 4 should light up. For cables with four conductors, LEDs 2, 3, 4, and 5 should light up. For cables with six conductors, LEDs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 should light up.
Note: The numbered LEDs do not indicate a good connection, only that a connection exists.
If the "Short" or "Crossed" LEDs light up, there is a fault in the cable.
If both the "Connected" and "Short" LEDs light up and the buzzer sounds three times, the cable is defective.
The numbered LEDs indicate the location of a short circuit. Other connections in the cable will not be displayed. If more than three numbered LEDs light up, the cable may have multiple short circuits.
If both the "Connected" and "Cross" LEDs light up and the buzzer sounds twice, the cable is defective. In crossed mode, the numbered LEDs indicate connections but do not show the location of the cross.
RJ-11 cables used for telephone connections are often crossed. Even new cables are frequently crossed. This rarely affects the performance of standard analog telephone lines (POTS). However, digital telephone lines and old pulse-dial telephones may be polarity-sensitive, so a crossed cable may prevent them from functioning properly.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
The 4-in-1 cable tester is a precision testing device and should not require maintenance as described in this manual. There are no internal adjustments, and calibration is not necessary. To clean the tester’s exterior, use a soft cloth dampened with a mild cleaning agent. Do not use chemicals, abrasives, or solvents that could damage the tester.
